How Can I Build My Own Website Free?

The first thing I would like to tell you is that it is so easy to build your own website, you wouldn’t believe it. You don’t need qualifications, or need be a computer wizzkid, If you can use a mouse and keyboard you will have no problem.You will need some basic tools and know how to use them, but that is all.

(1) Choose a Domain Name

Before you actually build your website you will need to decide on a domain name. A domain name is basically the name you choose to call your website. What is your website going to be about? So if say it was about dog training you might call it “dogtraining.com” or “trainyourdog.com” Your domain name ideally should reflect the content of your proposed site.

When you have drawn up a list of possible domain names the next thing to do is visit a few sites online that register domain names. Google “domain name registration” Just shop arround until you find what you want.

You will then need to find out if the domain name(s) you have chosen is/are available.It’s just a matter of entering the name and clicking the mouse. It’s best to have a name ending in (.com) as they are generally more recognized, but (.net or .org) are next best. There is a small cost involved when you register a domain ( about $10 for 12 months), but once you have registered a domain it is yours exclusively for as long as you keep it registered in your name.

(2) Set up a Hosting Account

Once you have registered your domain name, you will need a hosting account ( this is a place online where your site will be housed) normally there is cost involved here, but it is possible to get free hosting, (more on that below) Once you have your domain name hosted online you are ready to build your website.

To build a website you will need an html editor, you can get these free online!! An html editor allows you to design your webpage(s) in the style you desire, with your own text and images. You can get free web page templates easily online, and although they are basic you can easily alter them to suit your taste with your editor, to a  professional standard.

(3) Upload your Files (Website is Live !!)

When you have created your landing page (this is the first page visitors to your site will see), to your satisfaction, you will save the file on your computer ready to upload to your domain. This is done using an F.T.P client. An FTP client is basically software that you use to transfer your files from your PC to your online domain.

Filezilla is the most popular FTP client. You can download it online and it’s free!! Once you have uploaded your file(s) using filezilla your site will be live. You can alter your site and add extra pages and content anytime using your HTML editor, it’s easy once you know how.

I presume that you have never designed a website before and you probably have convinced yourself that you need to be trained to do so and that it will be expensive, well I am here to tell you that I know you can do it, because 2 years ago I didn’t have a clue, but with help I mastered the simple skills needed to make my own website and now I would like to help you.
