Marissa mayer tells yahoos to keep on keepin’ on in first memo
Earlier this week, ex-Googler Marissa Mayer was announced at Yahoo’s new President on CEO – a move that surprised plenty of people. Mayer was Google’s 20th employee, its first female engineer, and instrumental in developing many of the company’s most popular features.
Now, she has plenty of work to do to resurrect Yahoo to its once-mighty status. Oh, and she’s going to have to do that while raising a newborn baby.
Kara Swisher over at AllThingsD has obtained Mayer’s first company-wide memo to “Yahoos,” and the main message that the new CEO gives is that nobody needs to stop doing what they’re doing.
“Keep moving,” she says emphatically:
The company has been through a lot of change in the past few months, leaving many open questions around strategy and how to move forward. I am sensitive to this. While I have some ideas, I need to develop a more informed perspective before making strategy or direction changes. In the meantime, please do not stop. You are doing important work. Please don’t stop. If you have questions or concerns about whether to continue or not, please ask. However, with the exception of a few things that might heavily constrain us in the future, the answer is most likely: “Yes, keep moving.”
Mayer continued on to talk about Yahoo’s history, saying “Yahoo! is an Internet icon — in terms of brand, reach, user following, in its products and service. There is an enormous amount of opportunity in front of us.”
While this memo is internal, Mayer has already gone external and taken to Twitter to speak nice about her new company. Surprisingly, the first Yahoo product that he spoke positively about was search.
